Callum Leeds was a boy full of energy, curiosity, and a love for life. Whether it was playing sports, helping on the farm, or spending time with family and friends, Callum was always where the action was. From an early age, his love for hockey was evident—whether it was batting around a ball with a mini stick, strapping on his brother’s roller blades, or playing pond hockey with the family. When he joined the Thunder team, Callum quickly became known for his determination, playful spirit, and dedication to the game.
Callum’s first year of hockey was a true testament to his dedication, and he was so proud to receive the Heart and Hustle award at the end-of-season tournament. This award meant the world to him, reflecting his commitment and enthusiasm. In his memory, we now present the “Live Like Callum” award at the end of each season during our awards dinner. This special honor celebrates the qualities Callum embodied—his playful energy, his unwavering determination, and his love for being a true team player. It serves as a reminder to always strive to be your best and contribute to the team, just as Callum did.
Sadly, Callum passed away on September 12th, 2021. In his memory, the U9 team retired his jersey number, #16. Each year, we also pay tribute to Callum by reflecting on the values he represented and honoring his legacy. His influence continues to inspire the team, and the "Live Like Callum" award is a way to keep his spirit alive within our community.
To further honor Callum’s memory, we encourage support for causes that made a significant impact in his life. Callum was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a condition that required him to receive numerous blood products during his treatment. In his honor, we invite others to consider donating blood, plasma, or signing up as stem cell donors through Give Blood. We also want to acknowledge the incredible support Callum received from the Alberta Children's Hospital Child Life Department, who helped bring comfort and joy to Callum during his stay, lifting his spirits through his treatments.
Callum’s legacy lives on in the hearts of his teammates, friends, and family. “Live like Callum”—play with joy, show determination, and always be a true team player.
